Why Didn’t Britain Reconquer the United States?

Britain never attempted a full-scale reconquest of the United States because it believed the American republic would collapse, faced pressing European and imperial commitments, and calculated that conquest of a large, hostile population was not worth the cost. The War of 1812 was the last realistic opportunity, but even then Britain sought limited territorial gains, not full reconquest.
